ABOUT ROKTAKTO / BUILT IN BANGLADESH

Behind the data, a reason to care.

A life should never become just another number.

Roktakto connects scattered news reports to help us see the people, patterns and unanswered questions behind Bangladesh’s accidents and disasters.

Why Roktakto exists

THE STORY BEHIND THE PLATFORM

An accident should leave us with more than a headline.

During Eid, people leave Dhaka to spend time with the people they love. Sometimes that journey ends in tragedy. A family waiting for someone to return is left with news that changes everything.

Again and again, I saw reports of lives lost through neglect, weak systems and preventable mistakes. As one person, I cannot stop every accident. But I wanted to make it easier to understand what happened, what keeps happening, and what questions we should be asking.

“Is the value of a life in Bangladesh really so little?”

Roktakto began with this frustration — and a belief that making the evidence visible is a place to start.

The Cox’s Bazar resort fire made that need painfully clear: one incident, many reports, and lasting losses for families. Bringing those reports together can help us see beyond isolated headlines.

From scattered reporting to a clearer picture.

Use AI to identify key facts and connect related reports about the same event.

03

Make the impact visible

Explore places, people, outcomes and response through maps, filters and clear visuals.

04

Keep the sources close

Follow the original reporting, see updates, and share findings with their context attached.

Roktakto is an ongoing project. AI and news reports can contain mistakes; figures may change. It supports understanding and accountability, while the original sources remain essential.

SHARE A CLEARER PICTURE

If the work matters to you, help more people see it.

Share a source-linked finding, explore the records, or send feedback about what would make the platform more useful. Better questions and wider attention can help keep these issues visible.

Sources & data limitations

Counts describe news-reported events, not a complete census or population-adjusted risk. Impact categories may overlap; unknown values are not zero. Cumulative outbreak and disaster totals may include earlier impact. Source photographs and articles belong to their respective publishers; original reports remain linked from each record.
