The floating LNG terminal (FSRU) operated by Excelerate Energy in Moheshkhali, Cox's Bazar, suspended gas supply as of August 19, 2026, due to a lack of imported LNG cargo. The facility closure is expected for five days until August 23, 2026. This shutdown worsened the national gas crisis, causing electricity generation deficits and over 2,500 MW of load-shedding nationwide. In Chattogram, the crisis has severely disrupted residential life and reduced industrial productivity by approximately 80%. Summit LNG terminal remains operational to mitigate deficits.
