Ferry service suspended on Nazirganj-Dhawapara route due to strong currents in the Padma River

Ferry services on the Nazirganj-Dhawapara route have been suspended since September 6, 2026, due to strong currents in the Padma River. One of the two assigned ferries has been out of service for a month, and the other is unable to operate against the current. The disruption has forced cargo vehicles to take long alternative routes, while passengers are relying on risky, costly small boat crossings. A larger utility ferry, 'Kadam', has been allocated to replace the current 'Camellia' ferry and is expected to restore service.
