Following diplomatic efforts, 91 Bangladeshi fishermen, who had been detained in Indian waters for approximately six months after their fishing trawlers encountered mechanical failure, dense fog, and rough seas in the Bay of Bengal, were repatriated. The fishermen and their four trawlers were handed over to the Bangladesh Coast Guard and returned to their families at the Mongla Coast Guard Base on June 8, 2026.
