Padma River overflow and Farakka Barrage gate opening cause flooding in Chapainawabganj, including Paka Union

Increased upstream water flow and the opening of 109 gates of the Farakka Barrage have caused the Padma, Mahananda, and Punarbhaba rivers to rise, resulting in severe flooding in Chapainawabganj district, specifically affecting Paka Union in Shibganj. Approximately 5,000 families in Sadar and Shibganj upazilas are waterlogged, 5 primary schools have been closed, 56.5 hectares of crops have been damaged, and there is a critical shortage of drinking water alongside road infrastructure damage.
