Crops submerged due to waterlogging in Sunamganj, farmers in distress due to harvesting challenges and labor shortages

Widespread waterlogging across various haors in Sunamganj district has impacted approximately 3,189 hectares of Boro rice crops, with 755 hectares already harvested. Excessive rainfall and drainage issues are hindering mechanical harvesting. Farmers also face labor and fuel shortages. The local administration is responding by cutting dams to drain water and planning a 15-day closure of sand and stone quarries to alleviate labor scarcity.
