Death of Bithi Akter due to medical negligence following gauze left in abdomen after C-section

Bithi Akter, a 25-year-old nurse, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on October 8, 2026, after suffering six months of severe health complications resulting from a surgical gauze being left in her abdomen during a C-section performed on May 6, 2026, at Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Despite an earlier settlement for 55,000 BDT between the patient's family and the hospital authorities, an investigation committee has been formed to probe the medical negligence.
