During the protests in July 2026, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) faced an unprecedented influx of patients with bullet and pellet injuries between July 18 and 20. Medical staff suspended elective surgeries to prioritize emergency trauma care. Later, several doctors, including Prof. Dr. Shahidul Islam Akon, were allegedly transferred to remote locations as a form of administrative pressure for showing excessive empathy towards the injured protesters.
