Starting mid-April 2026, heavy rainfall and upstream mountainous runoff caused flash floods and persistent waterlogging across Sunamganj. Approximately 129,559 farmers and 60,000 families were affected, with 20,550 hectares of Boro paddy submerged, leading to estimated losses of 500 crore BDT. Persistent waterlogging is exacerbated by obstructed drainage due to unplanned embankments, causing fodder crises and impacting government paddy procurement.
