Transformer Explosion, Fire, and Clashes during DNCC Footpath Eviction Drive at Mirpur-10

On September 27-30, 2026, during a DNCC hawker eviction drive at Mirpur-10, Dhaka, an excavator accidentally damaged electrical lines, causing a transformer explosion and fire. Five shops within the Baitul Quddus Jame Mosque Market were destroyed. The incident escalated into violent confrontations between street vendors, city corporation officials, and police, resulting in over 50 injuries, the arson of three city corporation garbage trucks, damage to police vehicles and a traffic police box, the filing of four criminal cases, and the arrest of 25 individuals.
