Riverbank protection area collapse in Kazipur, Sirajganj due to illegal sand extraction

Illegal sand extraction using dredgers in the Jamuna River caused a collapse of the riverbank protection area at the Palashpur Ghat area of Kazipur, Sirajganj, on the night of April 17, 2026. The incident affected two locations, posing significant risks to the nearby Meghai embankment, local agricultural lands, and residential homes. The Water Development Board has initiated efforts to mitigate the erosion using geo-bags.
