Illegal sand mining-induced riverbank erosion and associated violence in Rangunia

Illegal sand mining in the Karnaphuli river, particularly in Rangunia, has led to severe riverbank erosion, destruction of homes, and threats to critical infrastructure like the Go-down bridge. The illicit trade, often controlled by local political syndicates, has resulted in widespread violence, including at least seven murders, numerous attacks on residents, and a fatal electrocution of a child on a sand storage site.
