Two dead after riverbank geobag embankment collapse at Meghna River in Shibpur, Bhola
On the night of September 9, 2026, five individuals sitting on geobags along the Meghna riverbank in the 'Goriber Dubai' / Shantirhat / Machghat area of Shibpur union, Bhola, fell into the river when the embankment collapsed. Three individuals survived, while two others went missing. The body of one missing individual, Md. Rakib, was recovered on September 11 in Ramgati, Lakshmipur, and the body of the missing BGB member, Md. Amjad Hossain, was recovered in Daulatkhan, Bhola on September 12 after a multi-agency search by the Coast Guard, Ilisha Naval Police, and fire service diving teams.
