On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a boundary wall at the back of Mirpur University College (Mirpur-2) collapsed onto a crowd waiting for TCB/OMS goods, resulting in 3 deaths and 9 injuries. Preliminary reports suggest substandard construction (lack of pillars/RCC) and weakened structure due to old age and recent rainfall contributed to the collapse. Despite an allocation of 20 lakh BDT for repairs in 2022, no maintenance work was conducted. The Minister of Health and Family Welfare visited the victims at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and NITOR, announcing that the government will cover all medical treatment costs. A joint investigation committee involving RAJUK, the Public Works Department, and DNCC has been formed to determine accountability.
