Madrasa student Yasin Ali Arafat killed in covered van collision at Gazipura, Tongi; students protest for safety

On August 8, 2026, 17-year-old Yasin Ali Arafat, a 9th-grade student of Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa, was killed after being struck by a covered van while crossing the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Gazipura bus stand in Tongi, Gazipur. The vehicle (Dhaka Metro-20-4413) was seized by police. Following the fatality, students from the madrasa protested the following morning, blocking the highway to demand the construction of a foot-over bridge.
