Continuous heavy rainfall, reaching a record 1,454 mm in eight days (July 5–12, 2026), triggered devastating flash floods, landslides, and widespread waterlogging across the Chattogram and Hill Tracts regions. Approximately 2 million people are stranded across 15 upazilas, with extensive damage reported to over 14,000 houses, 14,000 hectares of cropland, and 10,000 aquaculture units. Investigations revealed that illegal canal occupation, sluice gate closures for fish farming, and inadequate drainage infrastructure trapped water and exacerbated the crisis. The event caused 41 confirmed deaths. Prime Minister Tareq Rahman coordinated nationwide rescue and relief operations, with the Bangladesh Army (10th and 24th Infantry Divisions) deployed.
