Coastal and riverbank erosion in the Bauria Union area of Sandwip has exposed two critical 33kV submarine power cables for approximately three months. The cables remain partially visible during low tide, posing a significant electrocution hazard and threatening the power supply for approximately 450,000 residents on Sandwip island. Local authorities have deployed security patrols to monitor the site to mitigate risks of mechanical failure and public safety hazards.
District or Upazila level government authorities
Directed security agencies to increase patrols at the site.
