Miar Char in Gournadi shrinking due to riverbank erosion

Severe riverbank erosion along the Arial Khan River and its branches in Gournadi, Barishal, has caused at least 40 families to lose their homes over the last two years. The erosion is threatening infrastructure including roads and schools, leaving local residents in a state of constant fear and displacement. The Water Development Board has announced plans to begin protective geo-bag dumping within a week.
