Thousands of residents from Shibpur and Medua unions in Bhola Sadar, Bhola district, staged a protest and blocked the Water Development Board (BWDB) office on June 16, 2026. The protesters demanded immediate and sustainable measures against ongoing severe Meghna riverbank erosion, which threatens homes, farmlands, and the city protection embankment. BWDB officials confirmed that a 685-crore BDT CC block project is currently awaiting approval, and a memorandum was submitted by the protesters.
