Teesta River water levels in Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat: Heavy rain and upstream flow causes flooding

Heavy rainfall and upstream runoff caused the Teesta River to rise 13 cm above the danger level at the Teesta Barrage (Dalia point) on August 5, 2026. This incident, the seventh of the monsoon season, led to flooding in low-lying areas and charlands across Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat districts, submerging Aman rice fields. The Water Development Board opened all 44 sluice gates of the barrage to manage the flow. While water levels briefly receded in the afternoon, the situation remains ongoing.
