Total production halt at Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant

The 525MW Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Parbatipur, Dinajpur, has completely ceased power generation following a boiler tube burst in its first unit on the morning of January 18, 2026. With all three units now offline, the region is experiencing significant electricity load-shedding while repair efforts are complicated by aging equipment and reliance on foreign contractors.
