Increasing Elephant Movement and Human-Elephant Conflict in the Garo Hills Region and Mymensingh Division

The Garo Hills region and Mymensingh division, including Sherpur, Mymensingh, Netrokona, and Jamalpur districts, have experienced chronic human-elephant conflict between 2014 and 2026. This crisis, driven by habitat loss, food and water shortages in forest reserves, and retaliatory actions, has resulted in 49 human deaths and 35 elephant deaths. Authorities are implementing measures such as AI surveillance, artificial water reservoirs, and reforestation to mitigate these issues.
