On October 2, 2026, at approximately 6:00 AM, an elevator cable snapped at a government officer-employee housing project in Paikpara, Mirpur, Dhaka, causing the lift to collapse while carrying three residents. The victims, including an 8-year-old child named Wasi, were injured and hospitalized at NITOR. One adult sustained two broken legs. Following the incident, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works has formed a three-member committee to investigate the causes and maintenance failures.
