On the morning of September 4, 2026, an official car carrying the State Minister of Public Administration and Food, Md. Abdul Bari, and his wife, Nazma Ara Begum, was involved in an accident on the Mokamtala-Joypurhat regional highway near Gopinathpur and Gujiya village in Shibganj, Bogura. The vehicle veered off the road into a paddy field while attempting to avoid a 75-79-year-old hearing-impaired pedestrian named Firoza Begum (also known as Firoza Bibi) who was traveling to her daughter's home. Firoza later died at TMSS Medical College Hospital. The Minister and his wife were initially treated at Joypurhat 400-bed General Hospital, after which the Minister was transferred to Dhaka for advanced care.
