On January 20, 2026, a Liberia-flagged LPG carrier named Gas Harmony, loaded with propane and butane, suffered engine and steering failure in the Karnaphuli River. The vessel drifted towards the KAFCO ammonia jetty, threatening a massive explosion. Assistant Harbour Master Captain Asif Ahmed averted the disaster by successfully deploying anchors and stopping the vessel just five feet from the jetty.
