On September 2, 2026, the ferry Kopotakkho became stranded in the Sandwip Channel shortly after departing from Guptachhara Ghat for Sitakunda due to a combination of heavy siltation, a sandbar, and adverse weather conditions. Approximately 350 passengers, including an ambulance with a critically ill patient, were stranded for 19 hours, facing shortages of food and water, before the vessel was refloated and reached Bashbaria Ghat.
