Tourist Mohammad Rifat Hossain (Md. Rifatul Islam) dies after drowning at Sitakunda's Guliyakhali beach; cousin Mamun also passes away from shock
On May 23, 2026, five students from Daudkandi, Cumilla, were caught in strong currents while swimming at Guliyakhali Beach in Sitakunda, Chattogram. Four were rescued by locals, but 19-year-old Mohammad Rifat Hossain (also identified as Md. Rifatul Islam) drowned. His body was recovered after 16-17 hours. Additionally, his cousin Mamun (35) died of a heart attack due to the shock of the event.
