Lightning Strike Casualties Rise in Sunamganj Haor Due to Ineffective Protection Infrastructure

Between 2022 and April 18, 2026, 68 people have died due to lightning strikes in the Sunamganj haor region. Although the Department of Disaster Management installed 18 lightning arresters across six upazilas, they were placed on government buildings rather than in open fields where farmers and fishers are at greatest risk, leaving them ineffective.
